Verizon Lock Screen Rewards: $5/month for keeping "Do not sell or share" off so Glance can target ads

· Detected by QuietlyChanged's daily check

Verizon's privacy policy, now marked "Updated October 2026," adds a new paragraph: "Verizon Wireless customers participating in Verizon Dollars may be offered an opportunity to earn Verizon Dollars through use of the Glance lockscreen app." It goes on: "If you consent, Glance may collect, use and share personal information, including sensitive personal information, as described in the Glance AI privacy policy, for purposes such as delivering interest-based advertising." An Open Terms Archive capture first recorded the paragraph on the evening of October 16, 2026 (Mountain time), and the previous version didn't have it. The deal itself is spelled out in section 4, "Glance Lock screen Rewards," of the Verizon Dollars Program terms. Postpaid account owners and managers "may earn $5 in Verizon Dollars each calendar month by actively engaging with the Glance Platform for at least 60 minutes during that month." To qualify, you must grant and keep Glance location access, provide a selfie (or a gallery image or a stock avatar), keep "Do not sell or share my personal information" disabled (toggled off), keep "Limit use or disclosure of my sensitive personal information" disabled (toggled off), and keep "Enhanced browsing" on. On iPhone, you also need three Glance widgets on the Lock Screen and one on the Home Screen, and you can't select "Ask App Not to Track" for the Glance AI app. On Android, Glance must be your active lock screen with notification access. Section 10.2 says it plainly: "Glance requires you to share personal information, including sensitive personal information, which it uses to serve you personalized ads," and "If you stop sharing information with Glance or opt out of sale or sharing or targeted advertising with Glance, you will no longer qualify." Verizon calls the program a "financial incentive under California law" and a possible "bona fide loyalty program" under Colorado law. Those are the legal labels for paying people in exchange for their data. Verizon's FAQ adds that precise location should be set to "Only while using the app" and that you must "Grant permission to use your content for Glance AI features." The engagement timer runs only while you actively read, scroll, tap or ask the AI questions. It stops if you go idle, switch apps or turn on "Do not sell." The most you can earn is $60 a year. For anyone without a Verizon Visa Card, Verizon Dollars expire 12 months after they're issued and can't be used as a bill credit; they go toward gift cards, Verizon Store items and devices. The program terms page carries an effective date of June 16, 2026. We couldn't find an archived copy showing when the Glance section was added. To leave, uninstall Glance or delete your account in the Glance app settings. We found no news coverage of the program's data conditions.

Who it affects

Verizon postpaid account owners and managers enrolled in Verizon Dollars, especially Android users (Samsung, Motorola, TCL, Pixel on Android 13+) whose phones may already have Glance, and iPhone users on iOS 18.4+ invited to the offer in the My Verizon app
