Claude plans and pricing (November 2026): Free, Pro, Max and Ultra compared
Short answer: Free costs nothing, Pro is $20 a month (or $17 a month billed annually, $200 up front), Max is $100 a month and Ultra is $200 a month. Ultra replaced the old $200 Max 20x plan in late October 2026. It has no 5-hour limit for verified accounts and 10x Pro's weekly usage.

How much does Claude cost?
Anthropic's pricing page lists four plans for individuals, as of our November 1, 2026 check. Prices "don’t include applicable tax" and "are subject to change at Anthropic's discretion," so check the official pricing page before you pay.
Free
Price: free ("Free for everyone").
Usage: "Limited usage every 5 hours and every week."
Includes: chat on web, desktop and mobile; search the web, create files and run code; memory across conversations; connecting your apps and tools; Artifacts; and Claude Design, Slides and Docs.
Projects: up to 5.
Pro
Price: $20 a month if billed monthly, or $17 a month "with annual subscription discount" ($200 billed up front).
Usage: "More usage than Free, every 5 hours and every week." The FAQ says Pro gives "at least 5x more usage per 5-hour session than Free."
Includes: everything in Free, plus handing off and scheduling tasks, Claude Dashboards (beta), Claude Code, Claude Science, Projects, "More Claude models" and Claude in Chrome and Microsoft 365.
Fable: "paid with usage credits." Usage credits let you "keep working at standard API rates," so using Fable on Pro costs extra.
Max
Price: $100 a month, billed monthly.
Usage: "5x Pro usage every 5 hours and every week."
Includes: everything in Pro, plus "Fable included, up to half your weekly limit," "$100 a month in API credits to build on the Claude Platform," early access to advanced Claude features and priority access at high traffic times.
Ultra
Price: $200 a month, billed monthly.
Usage: "No 5-hour limit" and "10x Pro usage every week." The no-5-hour-limit perk is "for verified accounts."
Includes: everything in Max, plus "$200 a month in API credits, up from $100 on Max." Fable is included for up to 50% of weekly limits, the same as Max.
On every plan, "How fast you reach a limit depends on the model you use, how long your chats are, and how large your files are"; there's "no fixed message count," and chat and Claude Code draw "from the same pool." Check yours in Settings > Usage.
What changed on October 31, 2026
The pricing page changed between our October 30 and October 31, 2026 checks. The page itself gives no date for the switch.
Before: one Max plan "From $100" where you could "Choose 5x or 20x more usage than Pro," listed as Max 5x and Max 20x. The FAQ measured this "per 5-hour session," and the card listed "$100 to $200/month in API credits."
After: Max is a single $100 plan with 5x Pro usage. The $200 tier is now Ultra, with 10x Pro's weekly usage and no 5-hour limit for verified accounts. "Higher output limits for all tasks" is gone from the Max card.
New model: Fable, which the FAQ calls "our top model," was added: paid with usage credits on Pro, up to half your weekly limit on Max and Ultra.
API credits are now fixed: $100 a month on Max, $200 on Ultra.
Unchanged: Pro is still $20 a month, or $17 a month billed annually.
The page doesn't say what happens to existing Max 20x subscribers. The old 20x was measured per 5-hour session and the new 10x is per week, so the page doesn't say whether heavy users get more or less in total.
Max vs Ultra: which is it?
Both include everything in Pro and Fable for up to half your weekly limit, and both are billed monthly. The differences:
Max ($100) gives 5x Pro's usage, and that applies both every 5 hours and every week.
Ultra ($200) gives 10x Pro's weekly usage and removes the 5-hour limit for verified accounts. It's pitched "For your longest tasks": long sessions that would run into a 5-hour cap.
API credits: $100 a month on Max, $200 on Ultra.
If you were on Max 20x, compare your numbers in Settings > Usage before your next renewal, and make sure your account is verified.
Team and Enterprise
Team is "For teams of 2 to 150." A Standard seat is $20 per seat a month billed annually, or $25 billed monthly, with "more usage than Pro." A Premium seat is $100 per seat a month billed annually, or $125 billed monthly, with "5x more usage than standard seats." Teams get "Up to $500 per month in pooled API credits."
Enterprise is "US$20/seat/month, billed annually, 20 seat minimum," plus usage "billed at API rates." The 20-seat minimum, added in October 2026, means at least $4,800 a year in seat fees before any usage.
Team and Enterprise list "No model training on your content by default." On Free, Pro, Max and Ultra, model training is listed as "Opt-out."
How to switch or cancel
Change plans under Settings > Billing, then Manage subscription. Upgrades "take effect right away" and unused time is credited. Downgrades "take effect at the end of your current billing period."
Cancel on the web or desktop app under Settings > Billing, then Cancel. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel there. Cancel "at least 24 hours before your renewal date" to avoid the next charge.
After cancelling, your plan stays active until the period ends, then moves to Free. Your chats, projects and files stay with your account.
Payments are "generally non-refundable," with some exceptions. For refunds and team billing, see the FAQ on the official pricing page.
