Netflix plans and prices (November 2026): with ads, Standard and Premium compared

Short answer: Netflix has three US plans as of our November 3, 2026 check: Standard with ads at $8.99 a month, Standard (ad-free) at $19.99 and Premium at $26.99. Basic is gone. All three went up on March 26, 2026, and Standard has risen eight times since it launched at $7.99 in 2011.

How much does Netflix cost in 2026?

Netflix's Help Center page "Plans and Pricing" lists three plans in US dollars. Netflix says taxes may be added depending on where you live, and that prices and extra-member eligibility "may vary if you have Netflix through a package or add-on." Our snapshot of that page on November 3, 2026 matched the one from October 27, so these are the prices now.

Netflix says plans are "billed monthly on the date you signed up" and that it does "not offer annual, multi-month, or lifetime membership plans." You can change your plan or cancel at any time.

What each Netflix plan includes

Standard with ads

Netflix adds a note for people who get it through a package or a third party: check with that provider to confirm whether an ad-supported experience is available.

Standard

Premium

How much does an extra member cost?

Netflix's page says an extra member is $7.99 a month with ads or $9.99 a month without ads, and Premium can add up to 2 of them at that price each. Extra members get their own account and password, and the person who invited them pays. The plan table lists the extra-member option under Standard and Premium, and your plan sets how many slots you get. Netflix also says people outside your household can't share your account except as an extra member; a household is the devices at your main residence.

How much more is ad-free Netflix?

Going from Standard with ads ($8.99) to Standard ($19.99) costs $11.00 more a month, or $132 over 12 months. Going from Standard to Premium costs $7.00 more a month. That gap between the ad tier and the ad-free tier is the number to weigh against the ads.

Netflix price history: every increase since 2011

These are US list prices for new members from our sourced price history. In 2014, existing members kept $7.99 for a period, so the date an increase reached you can differ from the date Netflix announced it.

Standard (ad-free): $7.99 (July 12, 2011), $8.99 (May 9, 2014), $9.99 (October 8, 2015), $10.99 (October 5, 2017), $12.99 (January 15, 2019), $13.99 (October 29, 2020), $15.49 (January 14, 2022), $17.99 (January 21, 2025) and $19.99 (March 26, 2026). That is eight increases and +150% in total, and Standard's price has never gone down.

Premium: $11.99 (April 2013), $13.99 (October 2017), $15.99 (January 2019), $17.99 (October 2020), $19.99 (January 2022), $22.99 (October 2023), $24.99 (January 21, 2025) and $26.99 (March 26, 2026). That is +125% in total.

Standard with ads: launched at $6.99 in November 2022, then $7.99 on January 21, 2025 and $8.99 on March 26, 2026. That is +29% in total.

Basic (discontinued): $7.99 (May 2014), $8.99 (January 2019), $9.99 (January 2022) and $11.99 (October 2023). Basic closed to new US members on July 19, 2023 and ended for remaining members on July 18, 2024. Netflix's page now says the plan "has been discontinued," so the cheapest ad-free plan today is Standard at $19.99.

How often does Netflix raise prices?

About every one to two years. Standard went up in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2025 and 2026. The longest gap was three years, from January 2022 to January 2025. The most recent increase came 14 months after the one before it, on March 26, 2026, when all three plans rose at once and extra members rose to $7.99 (with ads) and $9.99 (ad-free). Reuters reported that increase.

What you can do about a Netflix price increase

  1. Check what you pay. Open your Netflix account page and compare the plan and price with the list above. If you pay through a carrier, app store or bundle, your price can differ.
  2. Pick the cheapest plan that fits. The ad tier is $11 a month less than Standard. Per Netflix's plan table, Premium adds 4K, two more screens at a time, more downloads, extra-member slots and spatial audio.
  3. Change or cancel in your account settings. Netflix says you can change your plan or cancel at any time, and plans bill monthly on your sign-up date, so a change made before that date avoids the next charge at the old plan.
  4. Compare with other services. Our streaming price history table lists launch price, today's price and the last increase for 12 services.
