Canva: Canva adds e-signatures, and its new terms say it doesn't verify who signs and isn't an archive for your signed documents

Canva's updated Terms of Use (effective Oct 30) point to new e-signature terms: Canva doesn't check signers' identity, bans wills and powers of attorney, and says keep your own copy.

What changed

Canva published a new version of its Terms of Use, effective October 30, 2026 (the previous version was effective August 19, 2026). Section 6 was renamed from "Use of AI Products" to "Use of Products" and now opens: "Your use of certain Canva products and features may be subject to additional obligations and restrictions in the Feature Specific Terms." The footer of both the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy now links a new document, "Canva's Electronic Signature Feature Terms."

Change 1: Feature-Specific Terms now sit inside the main terms. Canva's Feature-Specific Terms page (last updated 30 October 2026) says those terms "form part of" the agreement, and "in the event of a conflict" they "shall prevail" for the feature they cover. It lists terms for Affinity, Cavalry, Canva Sites and domains, the e-signature feature, beta features, printing and Brand Scan.

Change 2: New e-signature terms. Canva's Electronic Signature Feature Terms (last updated 30 October 2026) apply "whether or not you have a Canva account." Key lines: the feature "is designed for simple electronic signatures and is not an advanced or qualified trust service"; you "must not use" it for documents such as "wills, trusts, codicils, powers of attorney, and deeds"; "Canva does not verify the identity, age, capacity, or authority of any sender or signer"; and the feature "is a document workflow tool and is not an archive or evidence preservation service." Signed copies arrive as an emailed download link, and Canva "cannot guarantee" you'll receive or keep access to it. "Names, emails, and signing records will be visible to anyone who has access to the document or signing link," and signing records "do not constitute conclusive legal proof of signer identity, intent, or authority." Senders and signers, not Canva, are responsible for any E-SIGN Act consumer disclosures.

What stays the same: the rest of the AI section, including the separate AI Product Terms, is unchanged.

Who it affects

Anyone who uses Canva, and especially anyone who sends or signs documents with Canva's electronic signature feature, including signers who don't have a Canva account.
