Cash App: Cash App's saved checkout info now extends to loyalty programs and in-store Square checkout, and the Local Cash tip rule changes

Cash App's terms rename "Checkout powered by Cash App" to "Buyer Features," adding loyalty and rewards programs and Square point-of-sale devices. A rule forcing tips onto Local Cash is gone.

What changed

Cash App updated its Terms of Service. Section 4, "Checkout Powered by Cash App," is now "Cash App Buyer Features." It used to cover storing payment and order information for faster checkout on cash.app online ordering profiles. It now also covers "loyalty and rewards programs, and access to offers and benefits," and applies "on point-of-sale (“POS”) devices at Square Sellers" as well as online. The stored "Checkout Information" can include your name, phone number, email, card details, billing and shipping addresses.

The disputes paragraph now says your dealings with a merchant "on an Ordering Profile on Cash App or on a POS device" are between you and that merchant, and that merchants "offering a loyalty program" are responsible for refunds, disputes and support. Card disputes still go to your card issuer.

Other changes: in the Local Cash rewards section, the rule that when Local Cash covers the whole pre-tip amount "any tip you choose to apply for that transaction must also be paid with Local Cash" now reads that the tip "may be limited by the amount of Local Cash available for such tip." The $1,000 Local Cash balance cap is unchanged.

Who it affects

You may also have the ability to earn and redeem Local Cash on Eligible Neighborhoods Transactions on purchases made online and/or through Cash App when paying with Cash App Pay. Local Cash offers may be time-limited or while quantities last. If you complete a transaction at a Neighborhoods Seller that you do not follow, you may be eligible to earn Local Cash on that transaction by following the Neighborhoods Seller within a specified time period. With specific respect to a Recognized Card, after scanning a Neighborhoods QR code when using that Recognized Card, or, where available, after following a seller in Cash App or at the POS, you may be able to continue earning Local Cash automatically with that Recognized Card on subsequent Eligible Neighborhoods Transactions. When you follow a Neighborhoods Seller, certain information about you and your transactions may be shared with that Seller. Local Cash may only be used on purchases with Neighborhoods Sellers made through Cash App or when paying with Qualifying Instruments in-store (“Qualifying Neighborhoods Purchases”).
