IKEA Gift Registry is going away: shuts down after Dec 27, 2026 (items deleted, what to do)
IKEA's U.S. gift registry closes after Dec 27, and saved registries are deleted, not moved anywhere.
The wording
What changed
IKEA is shutting down its gift registry. IKEA's U.S. registry page now opens with "IKEA Gift Registry is going away" and says: "After December 27th, 2026, IKEA Gift Registry will no longer be available." The FAQ on the same page says new registries could no longer be created starting in May 2026 and that after the shutdown "registry accounts will no longer be accessible." "Items saved in your registry will be fully deleted. Items will not be automatically transferred or saved elsewhere."
Until then, friends and family can still buy from an existing registry. After that, "others will not be able to view or purchase from your registry through IKEA." Purchases already made aren't affected, and returns follow IKEA's standard return policy. IKEA says it "typically sends notifications via email in advance of the decommission date" and that "there's no official confirmation about a replacement registry tool." On your data, it says only: "You will still have access to your data temporarily."
IKEA Canada's help center also says the registry "is currently being decommissioned" and that existing registries "will remain available for the time being." The people most exposed are couples and parents-to-be whose wedding, shower or housewarming falls after December 27, 2026, and anyone whose guests are still using an old registry link.
What to do
Log in, add each item to a Favorites list (IKEA says hearting an item in your registry brings up Favorites), share the new list link with guests, update links on wedding websites and invitations, and screenshot your registry details before the end date, as IKEA suggests.
Who it affects
Anyone with an IKEA Gift Registry in the U.S. or Canada, especially couples and parents-to-be with events after December 27, 2026, and the friends and family shopping from those registries
