What changed recently: Xero can now require ID and a face scan or cut off your account; US disputes get a 1-year deadline from Dec 28

When do Xero's new terms take effect?
They're effective immediately for new customers and from December 28, 2026 for current customers. The Terms of Use, the US arbitration terms and the privacy notice are all dated October 26, 2026.

Will Xero ask me for a face scan?
It may. The new section 12 says Xero "may ask you to provide things like government-issued identification documents and a biometric facial scan so we can confirm the document belongs to you," using third-party verification partners. The privacy notice says facial recognition templates can also be used to confirm "it really is you when accessing our services through your login."

What happens if I don't complete Xero's identity check?
Xero "may decline to activate your subscription or restrict or terminate access to some or all of our services." It says it will give you "a reasonable time" first and let you know, unless the law prevents it.

Can I opt out of Xero's US arbitration terms?
We found no opt-out in the October 26, 2026 US arbitration terms. You can still use small claims court in your county or in Denver, Colorado, after the 60-day Notice of Claim period, and claims must be brought within one year.

Did Xero's arbitration terms exist before?
Only as one sentence that applied in every country: disputes go to "binding arbitration or small claims court." The new US version adds the Notice of Claim and meeting step, AAA rules, a one-year limit, batching for mass claims, confidentiality and fee rules.
